Deep and Wide Spaces

My sweet husband decided to take me on a surprise trip this weekend. More than any place, I love the majestic beauty of the deep and wide spaces of West Texas. We drove to the Guadalupe Mountains, slept in the car, and wore ourselves out climbing to the highest peak in Texas. Besides sleeping soundly since our return, we're both now addicted to the adventure series of the child prodigy-criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl -- Scott and I are audiobook junkies on the road.

  1. Aha! I knew that was Guadalupe peak! Don't you love hiking in the desert, enjoying rocks and occasional flowers, then suddenly rounding a bend to find yourself in forest? Did ya'll camp out up there? My mom and I hiked up there and camped at the site a little ways down. It was so windy that neither of us slept a wink, and her entire bible blew away, right out of her sleeping bag!

  2. Your mom rocks Beth! We slept both nights in the back seat of our car, but neither of us slept much with 70-mile gusts if wind shaking the car. And then there was the skunk...hmmm, I'll tell you more about that little sucker later. Aren't desert adventures the best!?

In honor of the desert my front yard is covered in newly planted baby Agaves, or "pups" as the gardeners like to call them. Can't wait for you to see them! -C
