Money has been our major roadblock to adopting from Ethiopia. Good news! In the past two weeks, I've been contacted about two potential job opportunities. One very exciting job that has to do with orphans in Ethiopia, and a second one that would provide us with additional steady income.
It will cost between $30-35K to adopt two children from Ethiopia. Some of the money we will get back in the form of a tax break at the end of the year -- the year in which we adopt. But all of the funds will be paid up front. We will roughly need to come up with half of the money before sending off our application to Ethiopia. Once the country matches us with a child, or children, we will need to pony up another chunk. Lastly we will have to pay for two trips to Ethiopia to first go to the required court date that the country decides whether we can adopt the specific child, and second to bring them home.
God keeps prodding us along as we travel down this path to adopting a child(ren) by sending us what we need in timely ways. Each time we stop filling out the paperwork because we don't have the resources. Each time we doubt. God provides. It's a pattern we're growing to expect. Even if both these jobs don't come through, they encourage me. God may be on the warpath to pounding the virtues of faith and patience into our pea-sized heads on this one. It's a beautiful experience to be in need.
